Name: Rodney Hurd - Director Pet name and why? – Bubba as I was a mummy’s boy! What led you to work with young people? All through school I had a secret that I needed to tell a teacher and I could not find one teacher that I trusted enough to tell. No-one dug deep enough to find out what was bugging me. No-one looked behind my behaviour to see my need. For a long while I went off the rails until at the age of 19 I became involved with the church, which acted kind of like the father that left me when I was aged 2. It challenged me and instead of running from my fears, I gradually started to challenge them and help others challenge them, which led me to become a local/district/regional/national young people vice president and from there through the YMCA became involved in working with young people. I see it more than a career, I see it as a passion to help young people to develop strategies to Reach Challenge and Empower.
